Merseyside Live Steam & Model Engineers

Location

Unfortunately none of the maps of Calderstones Park show the club and its railway. Liverpool City Council's leaflet on the park is singularily unhelpful. The club is actually situated between the area shown in the leaflet and Harthill Road. Persons wishing to ride the trains should approach from the park, taking either of the paths round the Rose Garden click here for a picture of the Southerly Rose Garden path click here for a picture of the Northerly Rose Garden path , or the path beside the allotments click here for a picture of the path by the Allotments , each of which will bring you through to the public entrance click here for a picture of the club entrance to the club. If you don't want to see the splendours of the park, you could park on Harthill Road, walk into the park using the entrance next to Harthill Lodge click here for a picture of Harthill Lodge (the white house with the pretty black woodwork), walk down the little bit of road click here for a picture of the lane past Harthill Lodge , turn right click here for a picture of the path towards the Rose Gardens and find us on the right. On Wednesdays, club members can enter through the gate click here for a picture of the members' gate on Harthill Road, just opposite the point where the road widens for the back gate to Calderstones School click here for a picture of the back entrance to Calderstones School .

Calderstones Park is in Liverpool, south-east of the City Centre, and is situated between the A562 and B5180. If those numbers mean nothing to you, they are the two roads that head south from the ringroad (otherwise known as Queens Drive Walton) as you come to the end of it (assuming you are travelling clockwise and therefore South). The A562 is the road from the roundabout signposted for Liverpool Airport, whilst the B5180 is Allerton Road, which is left at the lights immediately after the roundabout just mentioned. The park is signposted - look out for brown fingerposts with "Calderstones Park" and a flower. The roads that actually bound the park are (starting at the North corner and working clockwise) Calderstones Road (off which is a car park), Menlove Avenue, Yewtree Road, Allerton Road (for the other car park) and Harthill Road. If you are coming on a Wednesday, it is easier to park on Harthill Road, and you might want to follow the signs for All Hallows Church from Allerton Road (ie to the left of the Library), then fork left at the Church and then take the first turn on the left into Harthill Road. I know it seems odd to direct you from Allerton Road onto Allerton Road, but you'll end up at Tesco's or PCWorld if not since the B5180 goes off down Mather Avenue rather than sticking with Allerton Road! If you want to see where we are on a map, try this link to see where we are using Streetmap.co.uk or this link if you prefer Multimap.com. If you need a postcode to use in a Journey Planner or somesuch, try L18 3HU. If you use a really clever Journey Planner, which gives you individual properties (eg Merseytravel's) then we aren't listed, but are next door to the Calder Kids Adventure Playground.
